THE PROBLEM

Girls are suffering from a lack of proper feminine hygiene products, affecting their academics. Women in developing countries, such as India, lack the proper supplies to stay healthy during their menstrual cycle. As a result, many girls miss school every month during their periods, and eventually, drop out of school as a whole. In doing so, they never reach their full potential as scholars.

STATISTICS

According to a health survey conducted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare from 2015-16, 57.6% of women in India use sanitary napkins instead of cloth or other products. The majority of them are found in urban areas.

In rural areas, one in five girls drops out of school after they start menstruating, according to research done by both Nielsen and Plan India in 2014.
